Our classroom is such a dynamic environment. The energy that each child comes to school with is an energy that I want to channel into a love of lifelong learning. I want your children to enjoy coming to school each and every day. I will provide a number of learning activities and experiences that will enable your child to develop many skills. We will be learning how to get along with others, how to solve problems independently, behave responsibly and be considerate of others.
Parents are always welcome in the class and I'll be counting on you to help support your child's learning at home.

Attendance
Consistent attendance is essential for your child to obtain the maximum benefit from the Kindergarten program. Also, please make an effort to be on time. We start as soon as the bell rings, and when a child arrives late, it disrupts everyone. If your child does arrive late, they must be brought to the front doors and a parent is to call the office and the principal or secretary will bring your child to class. This is a school policy. If your child is ill and unable to attend, please notify the school office. I will get them caught up with missed work upon their return or may ask that you complete missed work at home. If your child is going to be away for an extended period of time, please let me know, so that arrangements can be made to make sure they do not fall too far behind. If your child is going to be absent, please make sure you note that absence on the School Messenger app. The system will call you to confirm the absence. Click here for the app.

Snack
Please try to send a small nutritious snack with your child each day. We are a nut aware school, so please do not send snacks that contain peanuts and/or tree nuts, like hazelnuts (Nutella), cashews, pistachios, walnuts, etc. We do have children in the school with a life threatening allergies to mushrooms, peanuts and tree nuts, so avoid snacks that contain those ingredients. Please send a small snack and drink and pack them in the side pouches of your child's backpack, so that they will be able to access them without having to go into their lunch box. We only have a short time each day to eat, once for the morning, so a small snack will usually suffice. Since we eat our snack in a "friendship" circle on the carpet, I would like snacks to be "finger food." Click on the link below to see some healthy snack ideas. Please do not send juice boxes. If you wish to send juice, please send it in a resealable container. It is my experience that children do not have time to finish a juice box and much juice is wasted, or they try to save it and becomes messy. As well, juice box recycling is only done every second week, so they ferment and make the classroom smell and attract fruit flies.

Birthdays
I do recognize birthdays in the class. Each child is presented with a class card and birthday crown. We will celebrate summer birthdays on a day in June. Please do not send in treats for your child's birthday. Due to COVID regulations, we are unable to have outside food brought in for sharing. Please do not have your child distribute birthday invitations in class or at the door unless all of the boys, all of the girls or all the students are invited. Those children who are left out feel badly and don't understand about budgets and space and number limitations. If you need help in getting the invitations distributed, see me and I will quietly slip them into their newsletter bags for you.
